NUURUZ is being built around African knowledge, cultures, histories, languages, institutions and lived realities rather than treating Africa as an afterthought. Its purpose is to make powerful AI more relevant, useful and accessible to African people and communities worldwide.

NUURUZ supports English, French, Portuguese and Arabic, with the NUURUZ language and writing system forming part of its long-term development.

Our principles

NUURUZ combines an Afrocentric perspective with factual accuracy. African context must never become an excuse to invent facts, suppress legitimate criticism or discriminate against other people. Claims should be grounded in reliable evidence, uncertainty should be acknowledged, and African sources should receive appropriate attention.
